MOTOR TAXATION

The Motor Taxation Section of Carlow County Council continues to provide a high standard of service widely availed of by the public.  The primary function is the collection of vehicle licence fees and driving licence fees.

Since March 2004  Motor Taxation Renewals for private cars can be transacted online.  The new system has enhanced the quality of service provided by the Motor Tax Office and allows for speedier processing of motor tax renewal for private vehicles where the owner has access to the internet.

The online facility is available at the Civic Offices in Muinebheag and Tullow, at the Council’s Libraries at Carlow, Tullow & Muinebheag and at the Council’s CRISP centres at Ballon,Borris ,Carlow and Hacketstown.   

STATISTICAL DATA

There were over 68,000 transactions in the Motor Tax office in 2006 of  which  19% was postal applications.    

     1. Vehicles Licences
The Vehicle Registration Office registered 2,954 new vehicles in 2006 as compared with 2,735 new registration numbers in the year 2005 and 2200, in 2004.

     2. Taxes 2006

The total number of Tax Discs issued in 2006 was 50,920

4. Vehicle Testing Scheme
Under the Vehicle Testing Scheme a total of 4,396 vehicles were certified (3,656 the previous year).

 

The Carlow Motor Taxation office is open to the public for 31.25 hours per week.

The total monies collected in 2006 amounted to €10.1M (€9.5 in 2005) broken down as follows:
