Special Offers from CRISP Computer Centres

Subsidised computer training is being made available to hundreds of Carlow people following successful funding applications by Carlow Rural Information Services Project (CRISP) under the Governments Benefit 3 programme.

The courses, which cost just €10 are available to the unemployed, rural dwellers, over-50’s, single parents, those with less formal education, and those living alone. Places are open to those who want to learn the basics of the Internet, and participants will get instruction on using search engines, E-mail, Facebook, uploading photographs, and general computer usage.

The training will take place over five 2-hour training sessions in CRISP Training Centres at: Castle Hill, Carlow, (059-9143972), Civic Offices, Tullow, (059-9181759), Lower Main Street, Borris, ( 059-9771899), and The Green, Hacketstown, ( 059-6471733). Participants will also be given access to computers at certain periods to practice what they have learned. Funding for the programme, which aims to train 40,000 people nationally, is being provided by the Department of Communications through a number of national organisations supported by local agencies. Carlow Rural Information Services Project is part of three separate consortiums.

CRISP was set up in 2002 in response to a need identified by Carlow County Development Board with the aim of providing computer training and access to all citizens of the county. To date this has been achieved through the establishment of training centres and the provision of outreach services throughout the county. CRISP is funded through the Department of Social Protection and is supported by Carlow local authorities.
