The
European Computer Driving Licence is a computer qualification recognised
throughout Europe and Worldwide. It is made up of seven separate modules,
or seven small courses within the overall course.
The course is made up of
modules in theory, file management, word processing, spreadsheets, databases,
presentations and Internet & E-mail. A separate exam is given for
each module. Exam results are listed on a record sheet known as a Skills
Card. When all seven exams are passed the candidate is issued with the
ECDL Certificate. The exams must all be taken within a three year period.
All CRISP Centres are ECDL
accredited, which means they can all organise ECDL exams for you, even
if you are not on a course at the centres. To sit an exam at any of
the centres you must have a Skills Card. Skills Cards are available
at all CRISP centres but if you have sat exams at another centre you
must obtain your Skills Card and bring it with you for exams.
The ECDL proves the holders
competence in most of the computer applications in everyday use within
businesses. For this reason many businesses and organisations look for
this certification when recruiting new staff.
There are several ways to
study ECDL. Some businesses offer employees ECDL CD-Roms. Employees
then study the ECDL at home or during certain office hours and then
sit exams accredited ECDL centres. Others purchase ECDL books and study
at home on their own PC. Then they purchase a Skills Card and sit the
exams at an ECDL accredited centre.
CRISP
Centres accept everyone for ECDL exams – whether you study at
home or in your employers premises, whether you have studied the course
at another training centre or whether you feel that your own computer
experience will be enough to pass the exams.
